Foster Care Child Listings

I received our application package today from Lutheran Family Services - YAY! It contains a lot of great information, including a page that gave websites for many states and regions child listings. I have put this information up on the State Adoption page so check it out! It’s not an exhaustive list but should be a great start for anyone interested in adoption from the foster care system within these regions and states.

I came accross your blog this morning. I was looking for people in NC that have gone through adoption… hoping to find some good advice :) We currently are about where you seem to be… Lots of research, getting info packets, ext. How long have you been looking? We are in Cumberland county…When we went to the meeting, they didnt give us the other agency information. They told us, that we were not needed. Since we are looking to adopt a son under 3. Then told us that we would nto be given a spot in the training :( I would love to talk with you and share info!

    • Wow. That seems really unnecessarily harsh! Cumberland Co is around Fayetteville, right? Well, did you see the story about a baby that was abandoned on a doorstep there? I didn’t see the story, but my Mom told me about it because her friend that has been trying to adopt for a few years now is the one who received that beautiful infant boy. So, there was a wonderful, healthy infant that was placed. I’m not saying that happens all the time, but it does happen. The median age of the children entering foster care in 2006 was 7.5, which means there were just as many younger than that as older than that. Also, this is 1.3 years younger than the median age in 2000. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re “not needed”! Good grief! But it may mean that you’ll have to be that much more adamant about getting what you want. Do you know agencies in Cumberland County that will adopt out of foster care? How about the counties around you? Because once you’re in there and have your home study done, nothing says the child has to be from right there around you as long as the agency you go with looks in other counties and possibly states. We are also looking for a younger child – a girl 3 or under (our son is turning 5 in September) and while we may be waiting longer than many others for our child, I know she’s out there and we’re going to find her.

I’ll make a new post and answer the questions about me!

This is just fascinating! And exciting! I want to skip ahead to the end and meet him or her now. Yeah, I’ve always had a problem with patience.

    • You are SO preaching to the choir! I can’t stand how long it’s taking even just to get all the info together for our appplication. Even though I received the “official” packet from LFS yesterday, I’ve had the application from them that I picked up at the end of June in that HHS meeting and it still isn’t complete. So many things from 20 years ago that we have to piece together. I want it DONE NOW!!! Home study completed! Ready to search right now!!!
